Curious Creatures

I recently found out that I’ll be the Featured Artist at the Village Gallery of Arts in Portland in October. I plan to exhibit all new work so I’ve been busy busy busy in the studio getting ready. Banjo is one of the paintings for the show and is also going to be the image on the postcard. I’m excited about the challenge of producing around 15 new paintings in this timespan.

Since I needed to submit a statement for the show, I revised mine and did a few other tweaks on this site. All of this is a work in progress that’s constantly getting fine-tuned.

Koala girl

Here’s a painting I finished yesterday.

Kaleidoscope Koala, mixed media on 11x14" board. $90.

I’m very happy with the swirl of colors in her body and the way her little koala face emerged.

Two of my paintings are hanging at Insomnia Coffee in Hillsboro as part of the Green Cab group show there. And this is the last chance to see my solo show at New Morning Bakery in Corvallis. I’m heading down there on Sunday to take it down and spend the day enjoying the area. Corvallis is a great town and I’m looking forward to exploring more.

Summer is already flying by!

This is the last week to see my solo show at New Morning Bakery in Corvallis. It’s coming down on July 6. I’ve enjoyed having my art there and I’ve gotten some great feedback from their customers.

Hints of Spring, mixed media on three 12x24 inch canvases. $540 for the set.

The three paintings that make up Hints of Spring are among the pieces I have at New Morning.

The Green Cab group just hung a show at the newly opened Waltz Brewery in Forest Grove. Two of my paintings are in the show.

This is also the last week to see Facing the Blues, my painting that’s in the Free Fall show at Village Gallery of Arts in Portland.

My painting is at the Olympic Mills building and all ready for tomorrow’s opening of the Recycled Rain Project! The reception goes from 6 to 10 pm this Saturday, May 10. There will be a lot of wonderful work there as well as information about conservation issues.

It was an interesting experience to paint with rainwater that I collected. It made me more aware of the weather–I wished for rain so I could fill my jar! Then I had to keep track of how much I was using and make sure it would last through the whole process.

Some artists actually used rain to create their art by leaving it outside. I’m going to try something like that in the future.
